Men’s sexual health is a widely discussed topic, but, for whatever reason, it’s sometimes more difficult to get direct and clear information about the sexual health challenges facing women as they age. Everyone should be concerned about their sexual health, including women, and the O-shot is a great way to combat some of the negative effects of the aging process on sexual function in women. At Boutique Medical Anti-Aging in Knoxville, TN, we can help you feel more like your youthful self with this treatment.
How Long Does the O-Shot Last?
For most people, this shot and its effects can be expected to last for around three years. At that point, the natural aging process will have caused new changes to the skin, your body’s ability to lubricate itself, and to collagen production, so repeat treatment may be necessary.
How long this treatment lasts for you will depend in part on your metabolism, age, and unique response to the treatment. Some women prefer to get treatment once a year in order to maintain their results, others seek bi-annual treatment, and still others can wait three years or more before noticing any changes.
What Is the O-Shot?
The letter O in this treatment stands for the word orgasm. The shot is a simple injection of healing and rejuvenation factors from your own blood that can improve sexual health. It is a vaginal rejuvenation technique that can help your body grow new tissue, develop better sensitivity, and enhance blood flow for better sexual pleasure.
The ingredient of the shot itself is taken from your own body. We do a simple blood draw and then spin the blood in a centrifuge to separate out the platelet-rich plasma, or PRP, to re-inject into the vaginal area. PRP is commonly used in cosmetic treatments and in the rejuvenation of tissues after injury and surgery, and it is a proven and safe technique. Platelets contain natural healing factors produced by your own body, and by injecting these in and around the vagina, we can send messages to your body to naturally rejuvenate the entire area.
Benefits
The number one reason that women seek this treatment is to enhance sexual pleasure, but there are a number of other important benefits. For example, it is a very safe treatment. It is not invasive, and no foreign substances, medications, or chemicals are introduced to your body. The treatment also has a very fast, painless recovery with no downtime required.
You can expect to have smoother skin after this treatment, a tighter, vaginal opening, better arousal from sexual stimulation, increased desire for sex, better, lubrication, stronger and more frequent orgasms, and even decreased urinary incontinence, which is another issue that often plagues women as they age.
When you come to talk to us, we will discuss your health concerns and help you understand exactly how this treatment can address them. We can also talk about any other treatments that might complement this one to help you reach your goals.
The Process
Initial Consultation
The first step in your treatment is to meet us for a consultation. In addition to discussing your concerns and goals, as well as what this treatment can do, we will also find out your general medical history, anything you’ve done to address these issues in the past, and any medications and supplements you’re currently taking. We’ll also want to know about your lifestyle habits so that we can provide you with a comprehensive and effective treatment plan.
Before Treatment
Before your treatment, there are a few things you can do that will enhance your results. Depending on what we learn in the consultation, we may suggest that you stop taking certain over-the-counter medications or supplements for a few days before treatment. In some situations, we may advise you not to have sex for a few days before treatment. Plan to come to your treatment wearing loose and comfortable clothes.
O-Shot Treatment
Blood Draw
The first thing we need to do when you arrive is to draw your blood. We will use this blood to create your PRP injection solution, and we only need to draw a small amount. The amount we need to take is usually significantly less than you would give for a blood donation, for example. It will then take us about 10 to 20 minutes to isolate the PRP in our office.
Cleansing and Numbing
After you have given blood, we will next make sure that the entire injection area is thoroughly sterilized. This is to ensure there’s no possibility that bacteria could accidentally be introduced to your body through the injection site. Then we will use a numbing cream on the site to ensure that you will not feel anything during your injections. The numbing cream takes a few minutes to start working.
Injection
This injection is typically applied into areas: the clitoris and the G-spot. You should not feel anything during this injection, though you may feel the sensation of pressure as the PRP is applied. It should take only five minutes to administer your injections, so your entire treatment can usually be done in half an hour or so.
After Treatment
We will give you a list of guidelines to follow after treatment, but they are really not extensive or difficult. We will suggest that you do not take any blood-thinning medications or supplements for a few days, including ibuprofen and aspirin. If you need to take something for a headache, for example, you would want to take acetaminophen. Most people do not experience any pain after this treatment, so you don’t need any prescription painkillers.
You should also avoid using tampons and having sex for three days to give the area time to respond to your treatment. Other than this, however, you can return to all your normal activities right after treatment. We will suggest that you stick with lighter activities for the first 24 hours and save the heavy exercise until the next day!
How Long Does It Take To Work?
Because this treatment harnesses the power of your own body to rejuvenate itself, you need to give your body some time to accomplish this. Most women start to notice distinctive effects about three weeks after their injections. You should start noticing increased libido, an easier time reaching an orgasm, less frequent urinary incontinence if that has been an issue for you, and better natural lubrication during sex.
Most women get their results after just one treatment, but there are times when a woman may need a second administration of the O-shot for the best results. This might be the case if your age-related changes are particularly profound.
Am I a Good Candidate?
Any woman who would like to enhance sexual pleasure is usually a candidate for this treatment. A healthy sex life is not something just for men, nor is it something that women struggle with only as they get old. Anyone can be struggling with an early onset of aging and its effects on sexual wellness.
You are a good candidate if you are noticing vaginal dryness, stress-related, urinary incontinence, difficulty becoming aroused or achieving orgasm, a decreased libido that has nothing to do with relationship changes, or are suffering from painful intercourse generally. On average, candidates for this treatment are over 40 years old, but there is no age limit for those over 18.
Why Changes Occur
The main reason that a woman loses sexual pleasure is hormonal. Changes to hormones can dramatically affect one’s sex life, and, as we age, these hormonal changes typically become more profound. For most of us, these changes are the inescapable result of simply living life.
Hormones
Women experience changes in their hormones regularly, most notably every month during their menstrual cycles, but there are some very profound hormonal changes that occur after pregnancy and immediately before, during, and after menopause. After pregnancy, many women have a reversal of hormone production so fast that they fall into what is known as postpartum depression.
When this is combined with the stress of dealing with a newborn, it can mean that all interest in sex simply disappears. In addition, vaginal nerve endings can be damaged when a woman gives birth, making it much harder to achieve sexual pleasure. Around menopause, a woman may feel many of the same changes as her body naturally stops producing as much estrogen and other hormones. Additionally, aging also causes our skin to become dryer and less sensitive and our muscles more lax.
This treatment can help with all these issues by signaling to the body to rejuvenate and rebuild tissues, including nerve endings, in the vaginal area.
