A PDO thread lift can allow you to reclaim a more youthful appearance without having to commit to facelift surgery. We offer a range of treatments here at Beautique Medical Anti-Aging in Knoxville, TN, which allows us a lot of flexibility as we strive to match each patient with the best fit for their needs. If you find yourself with more questions about PDO threads, we’d be pleased to answer them during a consultation.
How Long Does a Thread Lift Last?
It’s very common for thread lift results to last for one or two years. After you receive treatment, you can expect your immediate results to continue improving until about two to three months have passed. This is due to the threads stimulating extra collagen production. The threads harmlessly dissolve after six months, but that extra collagen helps support your skin even after the threads have dissipated.
Your body will continue to produce extra collagen for about 15 months after treatment. Some patients choose to only seek out treatment when they notice their results fading, while others prefer to receive treatment every year to help their skin continue to look its best. We can talk through your expectations in person and help you come up with a good treatment plan.
The length of your appointment will range based on the areas you’d like to treat, so we’ll be able to give you more information after we meet with you. With that in mind, this treatment can usually be completed within an hour. The gentle, fast, and effective process helps make this treatment easy for patients to fit into their schedule while also achieving excellent results.
How Does It Work?
You may also hear PDO threads called Polydioxanone threads. The proteins contained in these threads are thinner than a strand of hair and are held to extremely strict standards of quality. This material is considered very safe and can be absorbed by the body, much like the threads used for surgery. These threads are positioned below the skin and can be carefully manipulated to lift the skin into a correct position.
In addition to lifting the skin, PDO threads are able to encourage your skin’s collagen production. Collagen is crucial in helping skin stay flexible, hydrated, firm, and strong. It can improve the skin’s texture and plays a large role in supporting long-term results.
After we talk through the area you’d like to treat and your desired outcome, we will gently guide the threads into place with a tiny catheter. The threads will anchor themselves just below your skin, and we will then be able to use them to lift, contour, and reposition your skin.
What Benefits Can I Expect?
Not only can this treatment be used on almost any area of the body, but it can also be paired with other cosmetic treatments. We are happy to offer personalized advice to our patients, and sometimes combining treatments can help our patients address multiple cosmetic concerns all in one go.
It’s not uncommon for some cosmetic treatments to take time before you can enjoy your results. However, since they immediately lift the face, PDO threads have the benefit of offering very quick improvements.
Patients who like to see their results right away may enjoy this aspect of the treatment. If you have an upcoming event you want to look your best for, this could also be a way to get your results in time. Of course, if you do have an event coming up, feel free to let us know about it during our meeting. This will allow us to offer advice about the best timing for your treatment.
There are many reasons you may want to avoid surgery. PDO threads allow our patients to get dramatic results without any surgery. This can help patients feel much more comfortable pursuing their aesthetic goals.
A surgical facelift requires incisions, and incisions often lead to scars. Experienced surgeons may be able to hide the incisions fairly well along the hairline, but some patients are still concerned that they’ll have to worry about hiding their scars.
On the other hand, PDO threads don’t need any incisions since they use injection sites instead.
A “Trial Run”
Sometimes our patients may be interested in a surgical facelift eventually but would like to either buy some time as they save up for surgery or would like a “sneak peek” of what their facelift results could look like.
A thread lift allows you to enjoy long-lasting results without making a lifelong commitment to those results. If you love the results, you can then decide whether you want to continue with PDO threads every year or two or if you’d like to consider surgery at some point.
Turn Back Time
If you want a treatment that helps you look like a younger version of yourself, this could be a great call. Many people are nervous about looking into cosmetic treatments since they don’t want to look like a different person or have their results look artificial.
With skilled application, we can work with the natural structure of your face. This can help your skin simply step back in time to look healthier and more youthful.
What Are the Most Popular Treatment Areas?
PDO threads were originally designed to improve the general facial profile. The following areas were of particular interest:
- Nasolabial folds
- Eye Area
- Smoker’s line
In addition to the face, threads can be used on other areas of the body. Many patients have enjoyed success using PDO thread for their arms, hands, armpits, abdomen, chest, neck, knees, thighs, and buttocks.
The muscles of our foreheads get a lot of use as we make expressions, which means the skin over these muscles gets a lot of wear-and-tear. The most heavily-used facial muscles tend to produce dynamic wrinkles. Eventually, these wrinkles can deepen and become permanent.
PDO threads can help smooth out forehead wrinkles, which can do wonders when it comes to erasing years off of our appearance and lightening the upper face.
Much like the forehead, our eyebrows are used for almost every expression we make, even the most subtle ones. If your eyebrows have started to lower with age, or you have fine lines or wrinkles around them, this treatment can help reposition the eyebrows and smooth out the skin all at once. This often helps achieve a more naturally alert expression.
It can be challenging to find the right cosmetic treatment for the sensitive skin around the eyes. This can leave patients who want to improve eye bags or crow’s feet feeling discouraged. PDO threads can be an excellent way to help the skin around your eyes. It can be used to gently lift the area and offers nourishing collagen.
As the body’s natural collagen and elastin levels start to fall, our skin often starts to fall down with it. Jowls are created from excess skin as skin loses its structure. Jowls can affect the appearance of the lower face, jawline, chin, and neck. A thread lift can help your skin fight back against gravity and jowls.
PDO threads can help smooth over skin that may be sagging in the cheeks, and can help the cheeks look smoother and more hydrated by boosting collagen. For a fuller appearance, we can combine your thread lift treatment with a dermal filler as well.
Thread lifts are often seen as an alternative to surgical face lifts, but they can be used as a neck lift as well! Whether you want to correct horizontal lines, vertical lines, sagging skin, or all of the above, PDO threads can help improve all of these concerns.
Nasolabial folds and marionette lines are common facial folds that will usually deepen with time. If you have lines extending from behind your nostrils, those are nasolabial folds. Meanwhile, marionette lines tend to start at the corners of the mouth. Thread lifts can be an excellent solution.
